Union County is one of the most rural counties we cover. A large share of its land area is the Sumter National Forest, the population is thinly spread across it, and public water distribution reaches comparatively little of the county. For a great many households out here, the private well is not one water option among several. It is the water.

That shapes how we work here. There is no meaningful difference between "the pump has failed" and "the house has no water," so we treat total-loss calls in Union County as urgent and we carry common pump sizes in stock rather than ordering them in. A three-day wait for a part is a very different proposition when the alternative is hauling water.

The ground is Piedmont crystalline bedrock, and Union County sits on some of the older and harder rock in the belt. Wells commonly run 300 to 500 feet, with yield governed by fracture density rather than by depth. Drilling here is slower work than in the Sandhills, and honest quoting means saying so up front rather than discovering it once the rig is on site.

Water quality follows the same pattern as the rest of the Piedmont — hardness, iron and manganese, with some wells running mildly acidic. Because so many properties here are entirely well-dependent, we would gently push periodic testing more here than almost anywhere else we work.
