Well Drilling & Repair in Orangeburg, SC
Farm country on good aquifers. Orangeburg County wells can move serious volume when they are built for it.
Orangeburg County Well Service
Orangeburg County Runs on Groundwater. Most of It Goes on Crops.
Orangeburg County is agricultural country, and its relationship with groundwater reflects that. Alongside the household wells we drill everywhere, a substantial share of the work here is irrigation and agricultural supply β wells designed to move real volume through a growing season, not simply to keep a family in drinking water.
The ground supports it. Orangeburg sits on the Coastal Plain, with the Middendorf and Black Creek sands beneath and, across parts of the county, the Santee Limestone closer to surface. These are productive, laterally continuous aquifers. A well designed and screened for volume here can deliver flow rates that a Piedmont bedrock well simply cannot approach at any depth.
Agricultural wells are a genuinely different design problem from domestic ones, and the difference is not just size. Sustained high-rate pumping draws the water level down and holds it down for hours at a time, so screen length, screen placement, gravel pack and pump setting all have to be worked out against the flow rate you actually intend to run β not the flow rate the aquifer can produce for ten minutes. Getting that wrong shows up as a pump that burns out in its second season.
Where the Santee Limestone is the producing unit, hardness comes with it β limestone is calcium carbonate, and it dissolves. Elsewhere in the county iron and sulfur are the routine complaints. On an irrigation system, iron matters for a practical reason beyond staining: it fouls emitters and drip lines. Worth knowing before you design the system rather than after.
