Well Drilling & Repair in Easley, SC
Pickens County sits against the Blue Ridge escarpment. Steeper ground, thinner soil, and access that needs planning.
Easley & Pickens County Well Service
Pickens County Has the Steepest Ground We Drill On.
Pickens County runs up against the Blue Ridge escarpment, and it is the most topographically demanding part of the state we work in. That affects a well twice over β once in what the ground yields, and once in whether we can physically get a rig to the spot where it yields best.
On yield, the foothills pattern applies strongly here. Weathered saprolite above the bedrock is deep in the valleys and draws and can be very thin on the upper slopes and ridges, where drilling starts in hard rock almost immediately and fractures are sparser. A well sited in a draw will frequently outperform one on the knoll a couple of hundred feet away. Where a parcel offers that choice, taking it is the single most valuable decision in the whole job.
On access, a drilling rig is a heavy vehicle and it needs a route in and level ground to set up on. On steep or heavily wooded Pickens County parcels that is not a given, and occasionally the best geological location is one we cannot reach without clearing a track to it. We would much rather establish that during a free site visit than discover it on the morning of the drill.
Water chemistry here is typical crystalline-rock Upstate: hardness, iron, manganese, and low pH on a fair number of properties. As with the rest of the Upstate, radon in groundwater is worth testing for given the bedrock. None of it is unusual and all of it is correctable once measured.
